THE CHOICE

Fashion has been trying to scream it out loud; “We should all be feminist” but, should we though? I want to believe being a feminist is about equal rights, about making the same money as men do, about not being “shamed’ for our decisions concerning our careers, our bodies, our life. I would like to express my feelings about this whole feminism thing, and I’m afraid I’m going to be more like a “shame-minist” essay, than a feminist.  The first time I started to be aware of feminism was back in 2001 when my sister told me I should read one of Florence Thomas’ books, which I had the chance to read two years later. The book pretty much talks about how patriarchal our society is, and how as women we are told to prepare to be wives, and mothers in the Latin – American culture. Being 17 years old at the time, it seemed like a strong read for a teenager, but I’m thankful I came across the book, and that book formed some strong thoughts that I still live by. So, as I grew up in co...

JUNE

After a long and boring Winter, that got its nose in the business of Spring, we can finally welcome Summer! Time to get nails done, wear shorts and dresses and soak up in the sun. This Summer is not a basic one, one of my favorite sports events are finally back, yes I am talking about the Olympics .  Now, about the CFDA Awards, which is the Council of Fashion Designers of America; I have to put aside BeyoncĂ©’s speech and talk more of the underdogs. No shade on Bey, I just think it is important to keep an eye on new designers, they are fresh in the business and hopefully they will be the trendsetters in a couple of years. Personally, I think Orley is the one to watch; it has the true American Sportswear style (which I love everything Sportswear, duh!). Paul Andrew on the other hand, I mean who doesn’t love a beautiful pair of stilet...

Image
Nostalgia is having remembrance for the past. It is going back in our minds to a time and a place when and where we were happy, comfortable and secure; in other words, Obsession with the Past . When it comes to the past, life was easier when we were young, we didn’t have responsibilities, bills to pay, houses to maintain; everything that mattered was to have fun and look cool for our friends. I can personally say, that every little thing that reminds me of my past, brings me joy; so, it is not a surprise for me that nostalgia is such a strong thing in fashion, since it is a tool that designers use to get closer to the customers’ emotions, and help them to create a stronger relation between The Brand and the life style that it offers. Designers create entire collections that resemble the past; most of the time making reference to decades, or years, or trends that were strong when they were growing up, or that were important in their lives ( Read this interview of Hedi Slimane ); b...
